General characteristics/temperament: The Appenzeller Senenhunde is lively, high spirited, self assured, reliable and fearless. They are cheerful, trainable, and slightly suspicious of strangers, making them a good watchdog. As with all large and active breeds, training and socialization with other dogs and people are very important from an early age.
