Color: All Bearded Collies are born either black, blue, brown or fawn, with or without white markings. With maturity, the coat color may lighten, so that a born black may become any shade of gray from black to slate to silver, a born brown from chocolate to sandy. Blues and fawns also show shades from dark to light.
Life span: 10 to 15 years.
General characteristics/temperament: Bearded Collies are intelligent, hardy, active, curious, strong, bouncy and agile. They are stable and self-confident, and make devoted members of the family. They have very high energy levels and excel at agility trials. They make excellent pets for those able to accomodate their energy level and grooming requirements.

Grooming requirement: Weekly brushing to keep their long hair from matting. The long hair is also very difficult to wash. Some owners keep their Bearded Collie's coat short in a "puppy cut" to reduce the need for frequent brushing and to make it easier to bath. If kept properly groomed, they will shed very little. However, when they lose their puppy coat, usually between 9 and 18 months, they will shed heavily for about 2 to 3 months.
Known health problems: Hypothyroidism, cancer, Addison's disease, arthritis, skin problems, allergies.
