Color: Red (reddish brown), belge (black and reddish brown mixed, usually with black mask and whiskers), black and tan (black with reddish brown markings), or solid black.

Life span: 12 to 15 years.

General characteristics/temperament: The Brussels Griffon is intelligent, alert, sturdy, active, affectionate, and sensitive. They are often described as being "self important". They are adaptable, but might be shy with strangers or in unfamiliar situations. They typically bond best with their caregiver. If kept as a family dog, everyone in the family must be involved with the care and training. They are not recommended for families with children under 5 years of age.

Easy to train? Yes

Grooming requirement: Year-round shedding requires daily brushing to keep hair off furniture and floor. Professional grooming every three months or so to keep the coat trimmed. Show dogs should be hand stripped.

Known health problems: Heat stroke, breeding difficulties, cleft palate, eye problems.
