General characteristics/temperament: The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is gay, friendly, graceful, fearless but at the same time gentle and affectionate. They are easy to train and make an excellent and trustworthy companion for children. They are adaptable and equally happy as couch potatoes in an apartment or as active dogs in a country setting. Because they have the tendency to chase small animals, they must be leashed or let out only in a fenced yard.
