Color: White, black and white, brown or reddish and white, or tri-color.
Life span: 14 to 17 years.
General characteristics/temperament: The Coton de Tulear is originally from Madagascar and is the "Official Dog of Madagascar". They are intelligent, alrt, happy, stable, very sociable with both people and other dogs, and adapt very well to different lifestyles. They are not yappy, but are naturally territorial and will bark when necessary.

Exercise requirement: Short walks and/or play sessions daily.
Grooming requirement: Individual Cotons vary in the amount and length of their hair, some having longer and thicker hair than others. In general, brushing or combing once or twice a week should be sufficient to prevent mats, but thicker coats may require much more frequent grooming (sometimes daily). They are considered a very low shedding breed and have little or no doggie odor. Bath about once a month.
Known health problems: Progressive retinal atrophy, von Willebrands disease, canine multifocal retinopathy, liver shunts.
