Original purpose: Hunting small game and birds, retrieving from land and water, and herding sheep and cattle.

Color: Any shade of blue gray or gray blue from the deep slate to light blue gray. Puppies are born apparently black but will transition to the mature gray blue or blue gray.
General characteristics/temperament: The Kerry Blue Terrier is gentle, lovable, sturdy, fast, strong, and intelligent. They are all-around working and utility terriers, and are also capable of herding sheep and cattle. They are typically loyal and affectionate towards their family and very gentle with children.

Energy/Activity Level: Moderate/High
Suitable canine sports/activities: obedience, agility, herding, tracking
Grooming requirement: Brush at least once a week. The soft and wavy coat does not shed but continues to grow year-round, and needs to be clipped every 6 weeks or so.
Known health problems: Hip dysplasia, hypothyroidism, keratoconjunctivitis sicca, cataracts, entropion, cysts, cryptorchidism, spiculosis, progressive neuronal abiotrophy.
