General characteristics/temperament: The The Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen is confident, happy, extroverted, independent, compact, and robust. Although they are independent, they are quite willing to please their owners. They are generally good with children, but their high energy level and tendency to play bite may pose a problem with very young children. They have a strong hunting instinct and many will chase cats and other small animals.
